Goa guv calls upon corporates to empower education

MEERUT: Goa governor Satyapal Malik on Saturday called upon corporates to contribute in whatever capacity to empower education sector which will help shape future generation of the country.

“Education empowers people and nation in every dimension, but in India many businessme­n show least interest in donating for education while their counterpar­ts in other countries contribute a lot for empowering it,” said Malik while addressing a gathering of students at the 11th convocatio­n of Shobhit Deemed University here.

Citing an example of an Indian businessma­n, who has 14-floor house and recently spent over Rs 300 cr in engagement of his daughter, Malik said, “Such people are like rotten potatoes while business tycoons in USA and other countries willingly come forward to empower education sector in all possible ways.”

“This was the reason why their universiti­es bag noble prizes every year and we are unable to do it even though we have a population of over 100 crore,” he said.

Chancellor of the University Kunwar Vikendra Shekher and vice chancellor Amar Garg conferred honorary D Lit to the governor, who distribute­d degrees and medals to the successful students in presence of MP Rajendra Agarwal and other dignitarie­s at the convocatio­n.

Malik said, “Every student who comes out from college want to do something good for the country and society, but our society kills his idealism.”
