LUCKNOW: Two passengers who had an internatio­nal travel history were quarantine­d by the health department here on Monday.

The exercise was part of the decision to quarantine passengers coming from seven countries. Both passengers are from Lucknow.

The exercise was part of the decision to quarantine passengers coming from seven countries” China, Germany, South Korea, Italy, Islamic Republic of Iran, Spain and France. Both passengers are from Lucknow. Quarantine facility is available in Varanasi, Lucknow and Gorakhpur in the state and over 1,000 beds are reserved for the purpose, apart from isolation beds in hospitals.

“During screening and on the basis of travel history, the team at the airport decided to send them for quarantine. They will be under observatio­n for the next 14 days and doctors will review their condition every day,” said state surveillan­ce officer Dr Vikasendu Agrawal.

The state has reported 13 positive cases till now, including 8 from Agra, two each from Lucknow and Gaziabad and one from Noida. In all 22 symptomati­c patients from across state were hospitaliz­ed in the state on Monday while 1,527 are under home isolation.

“Quarantine will ensure whether or not the travellers have infection. Their for 14-day isolation will ensure they do not pass it to anyone and are safe and under medical help,” said Dr Ved Prakash, HoD pulmonary and critical care medicine at the King George’s Medical University. At KGMU, 15 samples were tested, including 12 from Agra and one from Rampur.

At present, KGMU has 10 suspected cases admitted and two positive cases, a woman doctor and a youth from Lucknow. The doctors had sent samples of the woman for testing to see if the viral load had gone down. “She has tested positive. But her condition and also that of the youth is improving,” said Dr D Himanshu who is treating the two positive and other suspected cases.

“We will take sample of the woman and the youth again after a day to see the viral load,” he said. “The two patients are allowed to stay connected with family via video calls and chat and have no medical problem other than cold,” said the doctor.
