LMC out to check virus with sanitiser in busy markets
LUCKNOW: The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) will keep sanitiser at public places and busy markets like Aminabad, Chowk, Bhootnath, Kapoorthala, Alambagh and Chinhat Bazar in the state capital to prevent spread of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19).
The municipal corporation will also make arrangements for hand-washing at all these places for the next few days.
These decisions were taken at a meeting that mayor Sanyukta Bhatia held with LMC officials here on Monday.
“Besides, sanitiser will be kept at all public toilets operated by LMC. Special care will be taken of women toilets till the coronavirus persists,” the mayor said.
“LMC has formed a quick response team which will sanitise the one-kilometre area where any coronavirus patient is found. This will include a special sanitation drive and screening of people, who are in regular contact with the patient,” she said.
On the suggestion of nagar swasthya adhikari Dr AK Rawat, municipal commissioner Indramani Tripathi agreed to provide gloves and masks to all LMC sanitation workers.
Tripathi said, “We must respect the efforts of sanitation workers, they are doing the most difficult job of keeping the city clean. That’s why we have decided to provide them with gloves and masks so that they remain safe and keep others safe.”
In the LMC offices, railings, furniture and lifts would be sanitized every six hours, Tripathi said. He added, “We will start a campaign against plots left vacant by their owners as these have turned into garbage dumpyards. Such plot owners will be penalised and legal action will be taken against them for putting public health in danger.”
“Besides, 100 hoardings (will be put up) and one lakh pamphlets will be distributed by LMC to educate people about prevention of coronavirus,” the municipal commissioner said.
