Free dustbins to Agraites on house tax payment
AGRA : Mayor Naveen Jain on Monday again announced free distribution of dustbins to residents who showed house tax payment receipts to Agra Municipal Corporation (AMC) officials.
As many as 2.5 lakh dustbins are to be distributed, but so far 1.42 lakh dustbins have been received out of which 38,000 have been distributed to people.
The budget for the dustbins is Rs 14 crore, with a single unit priced at Rs 480. Residents would be given green, blue and red bins, informed AMC officials.
Mayor Naveen Jain said, “From now onwards, residents would get three dustbins free of cost. We announced this in January and distributed free dustbins to house tax payers. But after some time, due to some changes the AMC began charging Rs 480 from house tax payers. Now we have decided that we will not charge residents for the dustbins if they have deposited house tax.”
“The aim is to make Agra city clean and ensure proper segregation of waste. It will save the time of sanitation workers and help in efficient disposal of solid waste generating from houses.”.
Residents who have paid for the dustbins could contact the AMC officials as the amount would be adjusted in their house tax in future, said the mayor.
Stressing on cleanliness, Jain said, “In coming year we will make the city free from solid waste dumping.”
Expressing concern over the working of the private company assigned sewage cleaning in Agra, he claimed, “A six month ultimatum has been given to the private company. I will not accept any negligence in regard to cleanliness of the city.”
