LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Congress on Monday organised statewide demonstrations to demand a cut in prices of petrol and diesel.

It also protested the government move to increase the excise duty when the crude oil prices were down.

Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) president Ajay Kumar Lallu led the demonstration organised at the GPO Park here.

“We will continue our fight till the prices of petrol and diesel were brought down in proportion to prices of crude oil in international market,” said Lallu.

Lallu used the occasion to demand that the state government should announce immediate relief to farmers whose crops have been damaged by rains and hailstorm. Lallu said the rains and hailstorm had caused considerable damage to crops and 40 to 50 deaths also took place.

Meanwhile, the party also submitted a memorandum to the Lucknow police commissioner to protest the arrest of its two workers for putting up posters of chief minister Yogi Adityanath, deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya and BJP leaders accused of Muzaffarnagar riots.

The partymen had put up posters at about a dozen places in Lucknow along with the state government’s ‘name and shame’ hoardings carrying pictures, names and addresses of anti-CAA protestors.
