Two arrested after encounter with police in PGI area

LUCKNOW: Two men accused in a number of loot cases opened fire on a police team in PGI area of Lucknow.

The accused were arrested after a brief encounter by the team. One of the accused was injured in the cross fire.

Police team recovered two country made weapons a bike which was stolen from Sitapur and a mobile phone stolen from Gomtinagar in Lucknow.

Confirming the incident commission­er of police , Lucknow Sujeet Pandey said, “We have arrested on Mohd Mateen. Resident of Sitapur district and his gang member Deshraj Gautam of Shahjahanp­ur district. Mateen was injured in the crossfire that took place between them and a police team of the area. The condition of the accused is normal.”

The incident occurred around midnight when the duo spotted a police team and opened fire on them. Police has recovered two country made weapons and two used cartridges from their possession.

The accused are booked in over nine cases of loot, attempt to murder and fraud and other sections of Indian penal code, according to police. Most of these cases are lodged in Aliganj and PGI police station of the Lucknow.

“The accused are members of gang that commits theft and loot. Our teams were trying to track them down and was successful in their endeavour,” said the officer.

According to police sources the accused has recently started using one of the phone which they stole from Gomti Nagar area of Lucknow. The police team managed to track them down using mobile surveillan­ce.
