LUC­KNOW : The num­ber of coro­n­avirus pos­i­tive cases rose to 38 in Ut­tar Pradesh on Wed­nes­day af­ter a 33-year-old Pilib­hit man tested pos­i­tive for the virus. This was the sec­ond case in Pilib­hit that was a re­sult of contact trans­mis­sion.

The man is a rel­a­tive of the woman, who had re­cently re­turned af­ter per­form­ing ‘um­rah’ (re­li­gious pil­grim­age) at Mecca in Saudi Ara­bia. She had tested pos­i­tive for the virus on Mon­day.

Till now 11 pa­tients -Agra (7), Luc­know (1), Ghazi­abad (2) and Noida (1) – have re­cov­ered.

“The woman was part of a 37-mem­ber group that had gone to per­form the pil­grim­age. She has two sons, the elder one is mar­ried and works in Haryana while the younger one (who has tested pos­i­tive) lives with her and is pur­su­ing B Ed,” said an ad­min­is­tra­tion of­fi­cial.

This man has no travel his­tory in the past four years. Be­sides him, the wife of his older brother and an ANM (Aux­il­iary Nurs­ing Mid­wifery) worker also lives on rent in the same house, the of­fi­cial said. All the oc­cu­pants have been home quar­an­tined for 14 days as a pre­cau­tion­ary mea­sure, he said.

The health department has in­ten­si­fied sur­veil­lance of trav­ellers in state and all dis­trict units have been asked to in­crease the strength of their teams. In the past 24-hours 9,520 trav­ellers from corona af­fected coun­tries were iden­ti­fied in the state and put un­der mon­i­tor­ing by the health department.

On Mon­day the num­ber of such trav­ellers was 8,950 and in a day it reached to over 18,000. On Wed­nes­day it touched 28406.

In all 1,830 sam­ples have been tested in the state and pos­i­tive cases have been re­ported from Agra (8), Ghazi­abad (3), Noida (11), Luc­know (8), Lakhim­purKheri (1), Pilib­hit (2), Kan­pur (1), Mo­rad­abad (1), Shamli (1), Jaun­pur (1) and Varanasi (1). Till now 11 pa­tients -- Agra (7), Luc­know (1), Ghazi­abad (2) and Noida (1) – have re­cov­ered.
