LUCKNOW: Life has virtually come to a standstill in Phoolbagh and Nazar Bagh after these localities were identified as one of hotspots of coronavirus and were sealed in the state capital.

Under the complete sealing for the third consecutive day on Saturday, cops ensured that everyone remained indoors in these localities. Sanitisation drive, which began on April 9 in the area, was also carried out in these localities on Saturday.

Teams of the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) and the state health department on Saturday also visited every household in Nazar Bagh and sought details of residents and sick patients, if any. In Phoolbagh, health workers visited for the third consecutive day to seek details of locals. However, no sample was collected.

In the sanitisation drive that lasted for several hours, every house was sanitised. Houses in narrow lanes and by-lanes were also sanitised. Anwar Elahi, a retired employee of the Power Corporation, guided the sanitisation team to make sure every house was sanitised in Nazar Bagh. After the sealing, all roads leading to Phoolbagh and Nazar Bagh are blocked and movement of vehicles is not allowed. The main entry point into Phoolbagh locality from Hussainganj has also been sealed.

In Phoolbagh locality, there is shortage of essential commodities as no vehicle is allowed to enter the area, locals claimed.

There was no supply of essential commodity in the area, contrary to the district administration’s promise. Among all essential commodities shortage of milk was a major issue, they added. “Proper medical examination of all residents of the area must be carried out to make sure there is no spread of coronavirus in the locality. As we all know that in some cases, symptoms of coronavirus are not visible, making it difficult even for the person to report to health authorities,” said Mukesh Yadav, a resident of Nazar Bagh.

In adjoining Machli Mohal locality, all shops were closed but locals roamed on the streets despite sealing. On the entire stretch of the road connecting Machli Mohal to Aminabad, locals were found violating sealing. However, cops made sure that all shops including grocery stores were closed. Even vegetable vendors were not allowed. The Phoolbagh locality is among 12 hotspots that were sealed in the state capital on April 9 to contain the spread of coronavirus. It was from Rahmani mosque in Phoolbagh, 12 jamatis were recovered on April 2.
