PRAYAGRAJ: Arun Kumar Gupta, an environmentalist and amicus curie of Allahabad high court in a Ganga case, has written a letter to the President of India, Prime Minister and UP chief minister for considering use of clean Ganga jal for treating Covid-19 because of its immunity boosting and healing properties.

In the letter, he mentioned that since pure Ganga jal, as conceived by our sages, had scientific value and off lately had been acknowledged by scientists world over, and so should be tried for treating the victims of the pandemic.

He wrote that scientifically it had been proved that people with better immunity were able to fight against Covid 19 virus and since Ganga jal on consumption by individuals enhanced immunity, the same would help to fight well against Covid-19.

Dr Vijay Nath Mishra, a neuro physician at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), backed the proposal. He said bacteriophages were an exclusive strain of virus which killed other viruses and was found only in Ganga water.

“As a doctor and researcher on Ganga for over 35 years I would support testing of Covid-19 treatment with Ganga Jal. It has been proven by many researchers like Prof Sanyal and Prof Gopal Das, who worked extensively on bacteriophages in past 40 years that the special strain of virus found only in Ganga jal inhibited the transcription of RNA or DNA of the other virus by binding together. This quality of the Ganga is found nowhere in world,” he said.

As per Dr Mishra, corona is a virus which belongs to same family of virus causing influenza and swine flu, which comes from bats and snakes. “This virus is different from other viruses as it changes its morphology very fast, the mutation rate is very fast. Viruses are actually protein covered DNA or RNA strands. Corona is an RNA virus having a lipid cap on it.

As it enters the human body, the lipid cap is dissolved and RNA strand of the virus enters the cell. On entering human cell, the virus RNA strand uses human cells reverse transcriptive protein or enzyme to make new DNA and later a new RNA to multiply. This bateriophage found in Ganga has been found to prevent this transcription process of the virus which would stop its further growth in human cell and render it ineffective,’ he added.

Meanwhile, Prof Timir Tripathi of Biochemistry at North Eastern Hill University, Shillong said that Ganga Jal has been found by researchers to have properties which boosted immunity of human being that would certainly help deal with the corona virus.

“Ganga Jal should be tested on corona patients for ascertaining its capability for treating the viral infection,” he said.
