Kheri cop feeds monkeys, stray dogs

-

LAKHIMPUR KHERI: The lock-down across the district has not only hit human life but also impacted mute animals, who find it hard to get food.

With hotels, restaurants and even temples closed, monkeys, stray dogs and other such animals are facing tough times.

Earlier, offerings by devotees at religious places and left-over meals at hotels, restaurants and party-lawns provided food to these animals.

However, since the lock-down came into effect on March 24, stray animals, particularly monkeys and dogs are faced with serious food crisis.

Amid these odds, inspector Chandra Kant Singh at Maigalganj kotwali has stepped forward to feed these animals.

For the past week, Singh and his staff have been regularly visiting Madhiyaghat temple with parched grams and bananas, feeding scores of monkeys and stray dogs staying there.

On Saturday, Singh called a meeting with local traders and sought their cooperation in providing food to these animals. Small wonder his endeavour earned praise from every corner.

Singh told press persons, “After the lock-down in the district, devotees stopped visiting the temple due to which hundreds of monkeys were left with no source of food. I felt pity for them and decided to provide them food during the lock-down period.”

What surprised the cop was that the monkeys, who were earlier very aggressive, have become calmer and somewhat disciplined.

Similarly in Lakhimpur city, Anand Agnihotri, Ankur Shukla and their friends have volunteered to feed the stray cows and dogs roaming on roads.
