Pashu mitras playing the friendly host to hungry stray animals

-

LUCKNOW : Not only for stranded labourers, the district administration has turned out to be saviour for stray animals too in this crucial period of lockdown imposed to check the spread of coronavirus. The district administration through its dedicated team of ‘pashu mitra’ has, for the past one month, been feeding stray animals who are facing acute shortage of food.

“The pashu mitras-- employees of Nagar Nigam, volunteers, NGOs and other animal welfare organisations are ensuring food distribution among the strays on mass scale,” said Mukesh Meshram, divisional commissioner, Lucknow division, who had launched the drive.

“Not only humans, animals too have been hit hard by the lockdown. Hence, we decided to run a parallel relief exercise for the strays,” said Meshram.

The pashu mitra has been set up not only in Lucknow but in entire Lucknow Division, comprising Hardoi, Unnao, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur and Rae Bareli.
