241 fresh Covid cases in UP; 14 more deaths

LUCKNOW : Uttar Pradesh on Friday reported 241 fresh coronaviru­s cases, taking the tally of cases to 5,744, which includes 1361 migrant workers who have returned back to the state from across India recently. With 14 fresh deaths, the total number of coronaviru­s deaths reached 152.

“Audit of all the deaths is being done to find out whether the cause of the deaths was coronaviru­s or some other ailment,” said Dr Vikasendu Agrawal, state surveillan­ce officer.

The number of migrant workers testing positive went up from 1,230 to 1361 (131 fresh cases) in 24-hours. In all 48,654 samples have been collected from interstate migrants in Uttar Pradesh, and 6,58,982 of migrants have been put under surveillan­ce, stated the health department data.

Meanwhile, Lucknow reported two cases, both women. One among them is a migrant worker.

Among the fresh cases, maximum 43, all migrants, came from Jaunpur taking the district tally to 91. An official said all 43 people reached the district on May 15 from Mumbai. They were kept in home quarantine. According to district magistrate Dinesh Kumar Singh sampling of these people was done on May 15 and May 16 and the samples were sent to BHU for testing. The report was received on Friday and all were coronaviru­s positive, he said. All of them have been shifted to isolation ward at hospital in Jaunpur. “The number of active cases has gone up from 2,173 to 2,259. We need to focus to increase in number of per day patient discharge so that active cases reduce,” said Dr Abhishek Shukla, secretary general, associatio­n of internatio­nal doctors.

According to the data from the health department, all 75 districts have reported cases till now, including Agra (839), Lucknow (314), Ghaziabad (214), Noida (317), Kanpur (323), Prayagraj (65), Moradabad (175), Varanasi (124). Till date, 4,41,491 persons have been identified and tracked by the district surveillan­ce units.
