Threat to kill Yogi on UP-112 WhatsApp no; STF probe on

LUCKNOW : The Uttar Pradesh police have received a message on WhatsApp wherein an unidentifi­ed person threatened to kill chief minister Yogi Adityanath “with a bomb”.

The threat message sender accused the chief minister of being anti-Muslim.

The message, in Hindi, was received by UP Police’s emergency response centre UP-112 at 12.32 am on Thursday and police officials said initial probe hinted at a Mumbai connection to the message sender. They said further probe was on.

Additional director general of UP-112 Asim Arun confirmed receiving the threat message.

The police have asked the Special Task Force (STF) to trace the sender and registered an FIR with the Gomti Nagar police station here against an unidentifi­ed person in this connection.

A senior police official, privy to the investigat­ion, said cyber experts’ help has been sought. He said a police team has also been sent to Mumbai after getting a specific tip-off about the sender. However, no arrest was made till last reports came in on Friday evening. The FIR was lodged under IPC section 505 (1)(b) for causing fear or alarm to the public to commit an offence against the state or against the public tranquilit­y, section 506 for threat to cause death and section 507 for using anonymous communicat­ion for issuing threat. Inspector of Gomti Nagar police station Dheeraj Kumar lodged the FIR after being informed about the threat message from UP-112 officials. He mentioned in the FIR that the threat message was received at UP-112 WhatsApp number 7570000100 at 12.32 am on Thursday.
