LUCKNOW : Uttar Pradesh will introduce e-sign provision for all transport documents that are submitted and issued online for various services.

It will also integrate the transport department’s system with National Highway Authority of India’s weigh in motion (WIM) over bridges at toll plazas to curb vehicle overloading. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath gave instructions to officials at a review meeting here on Monday. “The CM called a meeting to review the transport department’s work and he gave his nod for some important pending proposals,” a transport official said.

The CM, sources said, directed officials to introduce the e-sign system in the state. “People using transport department’s online services do not have to sign the documents they upload through the system but these documents do not have legal sanctity. Hence, the department is working on the e-sign project,” they said. The CM said the proposal for integration of transport department with the NHAI’s WIM bridges must be expedited and implemented soon to stop overloading by trucks.

“The WIM bridges capture the weight so once the NHAI’s toll plazas are integrated with the transport system, the latter will be able to check permissible truck load and calculate the penalty and issue e-challan for violation,” said sources. The CM also reviewed the progress of the proposed vehicle location tracking system (VLTS). The officials told the CM that the work was in progress but it might take a year to actually get operational. Sources said the issue of recent road accidents involving migrant workers also came up for discussion at the meeting and the CM asked the officials ensure that migrants did not travel in unsafe vehicles like trucks and autos.

“The CM also asked us to find out alternative sources of revenue and also the ways to provide some reliefs to tax payers in view of the Covid-19 pandemic,” sources disclosed.
