I-T official found dead at residence; kin cite depression

NEW DELHI: A senior income tax department official was found dead at his New Delhi home on Wednesday, deputy police commissioner Eish Singhal said, and quoted his family as saying he suffered from depression. Singhal said a note was found, but refused to disclose its content. Investigators said the official’s wife woke up to a sound and found him hanging from the ceiling fan of his study at around 7 am. He was taken to a private hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

Psychiatrist Samir Parikh said people under depression can be saved with better awareness. “Depression is one of the biggest reasons for suicide... Relatives, friends and doctors should play a role in identifying people under depression,” said Parikh, who is the director of Fortis National Mental Health Programme.
