Release those who have completed quarantine: HC

PRAYAGRAJ: The Allahabad high court has directed the state government to constitute a threemembe­r committee in every district to ensure that persons who have completed their quarantine period and have tested negative for Covid-19 are released forthwith.

The bench comprising justice SK Gupta and justice SS Shamshery passed the order while disposing of a PIL filed by lawyer Shaad Anwar who had alleged that the members of Tablighi Jamaat, who had completed their quarantine period, were not being released by the state government.

The bench observed, “We direct the state government to ensure that the persons who have completed their quarantine period are released forthwith from the quarantine centres provided they have tested negative and there is no legal impediment in releasing them. We, further direct the chief secretary to set up

a three-member committee in every district to ensure smoother, greater and more effective functionin­g of the quarantine centres.”

The court had clarified that the committee will not only supervise the functionin­g of the quarantine centres but will also ensure that such centres are properly maintained and administer­ed. The panel will also be responsibl­e to provide help, assistance, guidance in the wake of difficulti­es and problems faced bythe personswho­arequarant­ined. As regards detention of members of the Tablighi Jamaat, the state government had informed the court that all the 3001 Indians, who were the members of the Tablighi Jamaat and were quarantine­d, had been released after completing the quarantine period.
