UP’s tally of 8,366 includes 2,288 migrant workers

LUCKNOW: As many as 301 more people tested positive for the coronaviru­s in UP on Monday, taking the statewide tally to 8,366 since the pandemic began, according to official data.

Migrant workers account for over one-fourth of UP’s Covid-19 cases, the health department data showed. With five more deaths, the total number of fatalities in the state went up to 222.

Amid the increase in cases, the 59.71% recovery rate in UP was encouragin­g, principal secretary, health and family welfare, Amit Mohan Prasad said.

Dr Vikasendu Agrawal, state surveillan­ce officer in the health department, said, “There are 2,288 migrant workers, who have tested positive till now out of the total 71,607 samples collected from 11,47,872 inter-state migrants who are under surveillan­ce.” Till now, 5,030 patients have been discharged, including 187 on Monday. Sant Kabir Nagar and Gorakhpur reported maximum 24 cases each during the day.

Prasad said 8,642 samples were sent for laboratory test on Sunday and the health department admitted 8,472 people in quarantine facilities. Their samples were sent for tests. At present, 3,141 infected people were admitted in isolation wards, he said, adding 60 patients were on oxygen and four on ventilator support.

He said a pool test of 958 samples was conducted out of which 120 samples were found positive.

With the assistance of the Aarogya Setu app, the health department control room contacted 49,823 people who came in contact with infected persons. While 1,489 people were quarantine­d and 127 infected patients admitted to hospitals, 55 were discharged after recovery, Prasad said.
