When & how exams in varsities will begin
LUCKNOW: With campuses closed due to Covid-19 pandemic, students are anxiously waiting to know about examination schedules. Hindustan Times picked the thoughts of vicechancellors of various state universities about when they planned to hold examinations in their respective institutions.
LUCKNOW UNIVERSITY
The annual convocation of Lucknow University (LU) was suspended in mid-March amid the Covid-19 outbreak and consequent lockdown. Vice-chancellor AK Rai said that LU proposes to start examinations from July 7. “The university will start with the remaining undergraduate final year examinations so that the careers of students are not affected much. After that the university will start exams for first and second year as well. The post-graduate exams will start from July 20. All examinations will be over by August 14,” the V-C said.
DR APJ ABDUL KALAM TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY
Controller of examinations Rajeev Kumar said that final year classes for students of B Tech, B Pharma, B Arch and other courses will be conducted between July 6 and 15.
Students will be given an opportunity to complete the remaining class tests, projects. Kumar said between July 16 and July 26, term-end examinations of these students will be conducted, adding that they would be conducted in three shifts and each shift will be of two hours. He said that classes of first, second and third year students will begin from July 27, 28 and 29, respectively, and classes will run till August 21. Term-end examinations will be held between August 22 and September 10.
DR RML UNIVERSITY
RMLU will take a decision in the next few days when to hold examinations for the final semester of BA-LLB and LLM Course. The university plans to conduct final semester exams for BA-LLB and LLM students in July. Examinations for the remaining BA LLB semester students will be conducted in August along with PhD examination, said vice-chancellor SK Bhatnagar.
KHWAJA MOINUDDIN CHISHTI LANGUAGE UNIV
The MCLU proposes to hold examinations for all final year students from July 1 to 7 in three shifts of two-hour duration. Results will be announced by July 12. Remaining semester exams will begin from July 8 and end on July 15. The results will be declared by July 25, said VC Mehruk Mirza.
MCLU had proposed starting online, open-book, mid-term tests between June 1 and 8, via Zoom, for all UG, PG, engineering, and for professional courses like BBA, MBA, BCA, MJMC. Evaluation will be done by June 11, he said. Questions will be sent via WhatsApp or email and students will be expected to answer within a stipulated period of time. Classes will begin from August 1.
DR RAM MANOHAR LOHIA AVADH UNIVERSITY
Out of 433 exam centres, 78 of them have been made quarantine shelters for rehabilitation of Covid-19 patients. “We had completed 85% of our examinations before the first lockdown in March. Now, the remaining exams are subject to availability of our colleges,” said RMLAU vice-chancellor Manoj Dixit. On the remaining papers, Dixit said, “In view of the larger interest of students, we are looking into all possible options, including promoting students to the next level without exams.” He said results are being announced.
MAHATMA JYOTIBA PHULE ROHILKHAND UNIVERSITY
JPRU vice-chancellor Anil Shukla said there’s no possibility of opening the campus in June. The university has convened a meeting on Tuesday to chalk out a plan to schedule examinations. “Half the examinations are over. We started our examination from February 25 and evaluation work was underway. Everything was brought to halt by Covid-19 in March,” he said. Shukla said, “We will propose to restart examination from July 5 as lockdown 5.0 ends on June 30”
