LUCKNOW/PRAYAGRAJ After 18 months’ wait and court battle, dreams of hundreds of aspiring teachers were shattered on Wednesday morning as the Basic Shiksha Parishad, Prayagraj ordered to cancel counselling and document verification work across the state for the recruitment of 69,000 assistant teachers, after the Lucknow bench of Allahabad high court stayed the process.

In Prayagraj, scores of candidates who had arrived at the counseling centre were seen dejected after the process was stoppd. Outstation candidates were the worst affected.

The happiness on the faces of thousands of candidates who reached various counselling centres in Lucknow and elsewhere on Wednesday morning, hoping to get an appointment letter, withered as the state government decision to put the counselling process on hold went viral on social media.

More than 125 candidates reported at the office of the Basic Shiksha Adhikari here. Pradeep Tripathi came all the way from Unnao for document verification. Clueless about the high court order, he waited patiently and then went home in utter frustration.

Yet another candidate, Vinita Gupta came from Azamgarh to take part in counselling but returned disappointed. “Our dream of getting job was dashed

:

once again,” she said.

A lot of confusion was witnessed at the counselling centre where candidates from various districts converged since early morning. The news of the high court staying the selection process went viral on social media at 12 noon following which several candidates left the venue. Some of the candidates were called on phone to report with documents.

However, Basic Shiksha Adhikari, Lucknow Dinesh Kumar continued with the counselling for want of court order copy and further communication from Basic Shiksha Parishad, Prayagraj. In the afternoon, Kumar said, “I did not receive any official communication from higher authorities. Hence I did not stop the process and it continued for a while.” The process stopped after 2 pm when Lucknow BSA office received order from Basic Shiksha Parishad, Prayagraj to stall the proceedings.

In Prayagraj, as soon as the Lucknow bench of Allahabad high court passed its verdict, officiating secretary of Basic Shiksha Parishad Vijay Shankar Mishra stopped the counselling. However, although the court had stayed the counseling at around 10:30am, the same was uploaded by 1.30pm. Later on, the officials held a meeting and decided to defer the process till further orders of the court.

But amidst all this, the candidates remained perplexed.

Ashutosh Srivastava from Pratapgrah said, “After a long wait and several protests, today was the day when our dreams would have come true but the counselling was stopped midway.” Later on in the day, the secretary also issued a letter wherein he mentioned that all proceedings related to counselling for 69000 assistant teachers, remained postpone in 5the light of the Luknow bench of Allahabad high court order.
