Cong delegation meets guv to demand Lallu’s release
LUCKNOW: The Congress on Wednesday urged governor Anandiben Patel to order withdrawal of the case registered against Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) president Ajay Kumar Lallu and his immediate release in the cases registered against him over the alleged ‘fake list of buses’ the party provided to carry migrant labourers back home in Uttar Pradesh.
Congress Legislature Party leader Aradhana Mishra ‘Mona’ led a delegation of partymen to Raj Bhawan and submitted a memorandum to the governor, listing the party’s demands.
In her memorandum, Mishra said political and personal vendetta has led to registration of a case against Lallu at Hazratganj police station of Lucknow. She said Lallu was arrested in an undignified manner and the case was registered against him on the basis of unsubstantiated charges.
Lallu was arrested in Agra when he was waiting on UP-Rajasthan border to provide the buses to UP’s officers. She said no party leader was being allowed to meet Lallu in Lucknow jail.
Mishra said Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had offered 1000 buses by a letter sent to chief minister Yogi Adityanath on May 16. She said the state government had even accepted the Congress offer.
She said the buses were offered to serve the people and Rajasthan government had certified that they were fit to run on road.
Besides senior party leaders Pramod Tiwari, those who accompanied Mishra to Raj Bhawan included Congress leader in legislative council Deepak Singh, Sohel Ansari, MLA, former ministers Naseemuddin Siddiqui, RK Chaudhary and state party vice presdent Virendra Chaudhary.
Mishra said the governor had assured the delegation to seriously consider the demand.
