No UP college among top 100
LUCKNOW: Not a single degree or engineering college from Uttar Pradesh made it to the top 100 Indian colleges’ list of National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings released by the union human resource development ministry on Thursday.
Only a few central institutions in Uttar Pradesh and couple of private universities made it to the list. The state has 164 government colleges, 331 aided colleges, 6,531 self-finance colleges and 16 state universities. But none could make it to the list.
Deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma said, “We will look into why our state universities or any of its degree colleges could not make a place in the NIRF rankings. We are in process of preparing a roadmap as to how we can improve the quality of higher education in the state universities and colleges.”
Lucknow University vice chancellor AK Rai said, “University of Lucknow did not participated in the rankings. The exercise begins in September or October and I took over in December last. University should have participated.” AKTU vice-chancellor Prof Vinay Kumar Pathak said most of the engineering colleges are relatively new and it will take some time to match their standards. There is one pharmacy college that made it to the list of pharmacy segment at 49th place, he said. University of Delhi’s Miranda House retained the top spot and Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Hindu College and St Stephens grabbed the second, third and fourth spots in the ranking.
RMLNLU MOVES UP
Among national law universities,
Lucknow’s Dr Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University was ranked 11th against last year’s 14th. “Our score has improved from last year’s 52.39 points to 53.57. But we have to do a lot better in public research and publications. Institutes that are ahead of us have done exceptionally well in these two parameters. We will focus on research, government funded projects and publications,” says vice chancellor SK Bhatnagar.
