Dubey aide’s ‘disproportionate assets’ under scanner
LUCKNOW: Disproportionate assets of slain gangster Vikas Dubey’s business associate Jaikant Bajpai are under the scanner. The state government has recommended a probe into the huge amount of wealth amassed by him to the income tax department and enforcement directorate, said home department officials.
Money procured through illegal activities by Dubey and his gang had been invested into real estate and other businesses by Bajpai. It was alleged that he amassed huge wealth in a very short span of time, said officials.
Bajpai was also into illegal money lending and had given loans worth crores to different businessmen of Kanpur, added the officials. Currently, Bajpai is in jail after he was arrested by Kanpur police on July 21.
The state government on Monday gave letters to the chief income tax commissioner and joint director of enforcement directorate to investigate into Bajpai’s assets, stated a press release from the home department. The home department also asked income tax and enforcement directorate officials to
apprise it about the findings of the probe. ED officials had already initiated the process to collect details about Dubey and Bajpai before the home department wrote a letter in this regard.
Enforcement directorate officials had visited Kanpur and met inspector general (IG), Kanpur range, Mohit Agarwal in the matter on July 9. They had sought information about all cases related to Dubey and his gang men as well as details of assets procured by them.
