Teenager hacked to death after rape, body found near pond

LAKHIMPUR KHERI: A teenaged girl was raped before being brutally murdered in Neemgaon police area of Lakhimpur Kheri. Her body was recovered from near a village water-pond on Tuesday.

An eyewitness said the neck was slit apparently with a sharp edged weapon. Police confirmed the victim had been brutally hacked to death. Some stray animal had apparently eaten a part of the victim’s leg, police confirmed. Subsequent postmortem investigat­ion confirmed rape before her murder.

Kheri SP Satyendra Kumar Singh Kheri confirmed rape. “Rape has been establishe­d. Teams under an additional SP have been formed to arrest the accused. We have got some vital clues,” he said.

Satyendra along with Kheri district magistrate (DM) Shailendra Kumar Singh had rushed the spot after the recovery of the girl’s body. They also spoke to the victim’s parents and inquired about her movement till she went missing on Monday.

The officials assured the victim’s family that the assailants of the heinous crime would be arrested soon.

Forensic experts were called in to collect evidences from the spot of the crime.

According to girl’s family members, she had gone to neighbouri­ng Behjam town to fill up online scholarshi­p form but did not return till late evening.

Worried over this, her parents had intimated Neemgaon police, who carried out a nightlong search for her but in vain.

On Tuesday evening, some villagers sighted the body of the girl lying near the water pond.

According to some villagers the neck was slit though there was no blood.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party leaders visited the postmortem house and called on the aggrieved family members. SP MLC Shashank Yadav described the incident to be a result of polluted minds of unemployed youths and depleting fear of police. UP Congress committee chief Ajay Kumar Lallu, in his tweet, condemned the murder and attacked the Yogi government.
