State’s Covid tally goes past 2.3L, Lko count over 27K

In 24 hours, 5,061 new cases in UP, including 791 in Lucknow; 63 deaths across state, 15 in city, another minister tests positive

LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh’s Covid-19 count reached 2,30,414 on Monday with 5,061 more people, including minister of state Mohsin Raza, testing positive for the coronaviru­s in the last 24 hours. The statewide death toll rose to 3,486 with 63 more patients succumbing to complicati­ons while undergoing Covid-19 treatment, according to official data. During the day, 791 of the new infection cases were reported from Lucknow, which also saw 15 more fatalities. The state capital has logged 27,428 cases so far, the highest for any district in the state. The state capital’s death toll now stands at 361. In all, 1,72,140 patients have recovered across the state and 54,788 patients are under treatment. Raza tweeted, “Some staff members had tested positive and, on having symptoms, I got myself tested. The report was positive. I am in home quarantine on doctor’s advice.” Earlier, several ministers had tested positive for Covid-19. Two UP Cabinet ministers -- Kamal Rani Varun and Chetan Chauhan -- had succumbed to the disease on August 2 and 16 respective­ly. Gorakhpur reported 374 cases, Prayagraj 288, Kanpur 251, Varanasi 210, Moradabad 160, Ghaziabad 143, Gautam Buddha Nagar 126, Saharanpur 110 and Kushinagar 104 in the last 24 hours. Among other districts, Deoria reported seven deaths, Kanpur five, Prayagraj and Varanasi three each, Barabanki and Azamgarh two each, and Gorakhpur, Moradabad, Meerut and Ballia one fatality each on Monday. Till now, 56,26,897 samples have been tested in the state. Currently, 27,263 patients are in home isolation in the state. So far, 73,419 patients had completed their home isolation period, said additional chief secretary (health and family welfare) Amit Mohan Prasad. “The recovery rate in UP is 74.70% and the fatality rate is 1.42%,” said Dr Abhishek Shukla, secretary general, Associatio­n of Internatio­nal Doctors. Among those who died in the state capital, 10 were from Lucknow. During the day, 680 patients were discharged. “Till now, 19,893 patients have been discharged in Lucknow, with a recovery rate of 72.52%,” said Dr Abhishek Shukla.
