Police officer croons his way out of covid blues
VARANASI: Music is often a balm for those in distress. The situation was no different for a district police chief in eastern Uttar Pradesh. Battling a feeling of disappointment while undergoing treatment for the Covid-19 disease in hospital, Ghazipur superintendent of police Dr Om Prakash Singh rendered a song in the isolation ward and recorded the same. It has been uploaded on the social media where it has gone viral. All this happened when he was receiving treatment in the corona ward at King George’s Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow. Singh has now defeated the coronavirus disease and is back on duty. To overcome a feeling of disappointment, he sang and recorded the song ‘Humse ka bhul hui, jo yeh saja hamka mili’ and uploaded the same on the social media, he recalled. A diabetic with high blood pressure, Singh said he tested positive for the coronavirus infection on July 23. He was initially admitted to Banaras Hindu University (BHU) hospital on July 24 and later brought to Lucknow. Appreciating the kindness of the doctors, he said Dr Himanshu, Dr Chhaya and Dr Bhupendra treated him and other Covid-19 patients well. He used to drink karha (a herbal decoction) and tea several times during the treatment, he added. He also spoke about the misgivings that arose in the minds of people who lived in the same apartment complex as his family. When his driver took his car to the apartment premises, some residents there opposed the move as they wrongly thought that it was the SP who had come home, the police officer said. When Singh came to know about their apprehensions, he shot a video from the hospital ward and shared it with people of the apartment. “It was then that they believed that I am in hospital and not at home,” he said. Indeed, those were tough moments for him but tuning into his musical self kept him going. A soulful ditty works wonders even for the dutiful.
