PRAYAGRAJ: After crackdown on criminal-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad and his aides, district magistrate Prayagraj Bhanu Chandra Goswami on late Monday night issued an order to attach 12 immovable properties of former block chairman and mafia Dilip Mishra under the gangster act. Seven of the properties, which include a college and training institute, are located in Pura Pandey village while other properties are in villages Mahuari, Mungari, Devrakh Uparhar and Lavayan Kala, native village of Mishra. The properties are registered in the names of Dilip’s wife Archana Mishra, son Shubham and other close relatives. The order issued by the district administration states that all of these properties were earned illegally by Mishra and his associates. Mishra is an accused in the attack on cabinet minister Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi in 2010. He is presently lodged at Fatehgarh Jail. A native of Lavayan Kala area of trans-Yamuna area of Prayagraj, Mishra is former block chairman and has over two dozen cases under serious sections lodged against him at different police stations of the city. Dilip’s name had figured in the sensational attack on cabinet minister Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi’ in which the minister was seriously injured while two others, including a journalist had died during BSP regime in 2010. Mishra was arrested but was later granted bail in the case. Few months back, a team from the crime branch arrested Mishra, his son Shubham and a contract killer Niraj Singh who was hiding at Mishra’s residence at Lavayan Kala. Police had claimed that action against the three had averted the killing of a local leader and two other persons for whose killing Mishra had hired Niraj. His wife and daughter had recently claimed that police had illegally arrested Mishra’s son Shubham despite him having no past criminal record. Mishra’s gun licence has already been cancelled and the firearm seized by police. SSP Abhishek Dixit said investigations had revealed that Mishra owned properties worth several crores and claimed that those were mostly earned through ‘illegal’ means.
