SSP PRAYAGRAJ SUSPENDED OVER CORRUPTION, NEGLIGENCE CHARGES
DIXIT WAS APPOINTED SSP OF PRAYAGRAJ ON JUNE 16 THIS YEAR REPLACING SATYARTH ANIRUDH PANKAJ
PRAYAGRAJ Senior superintendent of police (SSP) of Prayagraj Abhishek Dixit was suspended on Tuesday by chief minister Yogi Adityanath following allegations of corruption and negligence in maintaining law and order against him,
a state home department communiqué said.
Deputy commissioner (north), Lucknow, Sarvashresth Tripathi has been appointed the new district police chief of Prayagraj.
Though the communiqué did not mention the exact charges of corruption against the officer, home department officials said he was facing these charges in transfers and postings of SHOs and other cops to different police stations.
Dixit was appointed SSP of Prayagraj on June 16 this year when he replaced Satyarth Anirudh Pankaj. Dixit will now be attached to the DGP headquarters in Lucknow, said a state home ministry spokesman. Dixit is accused of failing to implement instructions of the state government and also failing in controlling crimes, including loots and snatching. He also failed to ensure regular foot patrolling, the spokesman said.
Dixit was also not able to make people follow social distancing and take precautions in line with Covid-19 guidelines for which the court had also expressed its dissatisfaction. Dixit is also accused of not reviewing the checking operation and other actions taken by his subordinates, the communiqué adds.
