Lucknow’s daily case count falls below 200

LUCKNOW: With 2,018 fresh cases, the Covid-19 tally of Uttar Pradesh rose to 4,74,054 on Tuesday, while the death toll due to the disease went up to 6,940 with 38 more people succumbing to it.

Prayagraj replaced Lucknow for the top spot on UP’s list of cities that recorded fresh Covid cases during the day, according to health department data.

The Sangam city reported 198 cases, Lucknow 186, Lakhimpur Kheri 168, Gautam Buddh Nagar 151, Meerut 123, Ghaziabad 120 and Gorakhpur 103.

It was after July 8 that Lucknow came on second spot in the state in terms of daily fresh cases. The state capital had then reported 97 new cases while Ghaziabad logged 165 fresh cases. After this, Lucknow remained on top of the list (with maximum new/daily cases).

The number of fresh/daily Covid cases in Lucknow fell to below 200 (186 on Tuesday) after a gap of over three months. On July 17, Lucknow reported 151 fresh cases. Thereafter, the number was on the rise.

The state capital touched the highest single-day figure of 1,244 on September 18. After this, a downward trend in fresh cases was recorded.

“Lucknow has till now reported 62,246 cases. These include 58,136 patients discharged from hospitals and 870 deaths. The recovery rate in Lucknow stands at 93.39%,” said Dr Abhishek Shukla, secretary general, Associatio­n of Internatio­nal Doctors.

On Tuesday, Kanpur logged 35 cases, Bareilly 27, Agra 32, Moradabad 38 and Varanasi 53. Lucknow saw six deaths, Kanpur four, Gorakhpur, Moradabad, Meerut and Varanasi two each and Gautam Buddh Nagar one.
