KANPUR : Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said that Uttar Pradesh had not seen any riot in the past three years and emphasised that the state government had a zero-tolerance policy on crime and criminals.

“In the previous regimes, riots were a norm. But we would not compromise on action against crime and criminals. We have a zero-tolerance policy on goondas and crime… mafias won’t be allowed to flourish,” said the CM while addressing public rallies in Ghatampur and Bangarmau, which go to by-polls on November 3. The Ghatampur seat fell vacant after the death of minister in state cabinet, Kamal Rani Varun due to Covid while the Bangarmau seat fell vacant following conviction of Kuldip Singh Sengar, MLA, in a rape case. “Earlier, criminals used to forcibly occupy properties of people. Now, their (criminals’) properties are being bulldozed,” he said.

Yogi Adityanath said the government would not accept cow slaughter and act tough against people indulging in it, within the parameters of law. “Saving the

cow is my pledge and anyone killing her has to go to jail. To make bovines safe, gaushalas are being constructed in every district,” he said and emphasized that protecting cows was everyone’s responsibility.

Taking potshots at the opposition, Adityanath said: “The Samajwadi Party, the Congress and the Bahujan Samaj Party are limited to their families. They cannot think beyond it while the BJP is a party of workers.”

“Unlike these parties, the BJP has a family 24 crore people of Uttar Pradesh. A simple worker can contest on a BJP ticket. This time again, the party has fielded a simple worker,” he said.

Yogi Adityanath said only the BJP could work for the betterment of people and development of Ghatampur. “Kamal Rani ji accelerated development and that momentum will be maintained,” he said. He also urged people to wear mask and maintain physical distance, saying that safety measures were crucial in the festive season.

“The government credited Rs 500 into bank accounts of people during the pandemic while farmers and women were given financial assistance,” said the CM.

He said, the government worked without discrimination.

“In the previous government, development was restricted to families. But the BJP ensured that it took along everyone on the path of development,” he said.
