LUCKNOW : Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Friday said her party will contest the 2022 assembly election in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand on its own. Demanding that the Centre should provide Covid vaccine to the common people, she said if voted to power in UP in 2022, her party would ensure free Covid vaccine for all.

Speaking in a programme organised to celebrate her 65th birthday in Delhi, the former chief minister exhorted her party cadre to start preparation for the 2022 assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. The BSP formed the government in the state for four times. The party leaders and workers should harness their resources to regain the power, she added.

The BSP contested the 2019 Lok Sabha election in UP in alliance with the Samajwadi Party. The BSP joined the Grand Democratic Secular Front (GDSP) of five political parties to contest the Bihar assembly election held in November last.

There were speculations that the BSP may join the Bhagidari Sankalp Morcha launched by All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) led by Asaduddin Owaisi and Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) chief Om Prakash Rajbhar to contest the 2022 UP assembly polls.

Mayawati alleged that rival political parties were hatching a conspiracy to divide dalit and backward communities to stop the BSP from coming to power in Uttar Pradesh. The party workers should not be misguided and they should ensure formation of the BSP government to take forward the Bahujan mission of party founder Kanshi Ram. The BSP will work for the welfare of the dalit, backward, tribal, minorities, farmers, traders and youths, she said.

Moreover, she called upon the party workers to celebrate her 65th birthday as Jankalyankari Diwas in a simple manner following the Covid-19 guidelines. On my birthday, the party leaders and workers in all 75 UP districts should assisting migrants, farmers, labourers and the poor people who were facing problems due to the economic slowdown, she added.

On the occasion, she also released the 16th edition of her book “A Travelogue of My Struggle Ridden Life and BSP Movement” in Hindi and English. The travelogue would generate selfrespect among the party supporters and guide them towards taking the movement launched by the BSP forward, she said.

Mayawati is camping in Delhi, where she is holding regular review meetings to gear up the party cadre for the 2022 assembly election in Uttar Pradesh.
