52% give vaccination a miss in Lko
No vaccine was wasted as a new vial was opened only when the required number of beneficiaries was present on the spot
LUCKNOW : Around 52% beneficiaries did not turn up for the third round of Covid vaccination in Lucknow on Thursday and only 6,970 of the targeted 14,311 turned up at the 116 vaccination sites/booths at 43 different hospitals here.
In round one on January 16, about 29% had missed the vaccine shot and in round two on January 22 about 42% had missed vaccination. Health officials hope the percentage will rise on Friday.
“We are trying to ensure the percentage rises on Friday and the coming vaccination days on February 4 and 5 as we have to complete vaccination for all healthcare workers by then. The frontline workers’ vaccination will begin from February 5 onwards,” said Dr MK Singh, in charge of vaccination in Lucknow.
King George’s Medical University
(KGMU), which had maximum 15 vaccination sites/ booths with 1,875 listed beneficiaries, could vaccinate only 900 beneficiaries (48% of the target). Era Medical College, which had 11 vaccination booths, could vaccinate 690 beneficiaries of the total 1,375 listed.
“As health workers we need to come forward and set an example by taking the jab. Vaccine is safe and there is no doubt about it,” said Dr Abhishek Shukla, secretary general, Association of International Doctors.
In Lucknow there were 43 vaccination centres, where 116 vaccination session sites/booths were set up. Of these 100 were in urban areas and 16 in rural pockets. Maximum 15 booths were at King George’s Medical University and 11 at Era Medical College. Each vaccination booth had a list of 125 beneficiaries.
Dr Singh said, “No vaccine vial was wasted. We ensured a new vial is opened only when there were at least 5-7 beneficiaries already at the vaccination site.”
