LUCKNOW: Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) is preparing for the annual pan India sanitation survey scheduled to start from March 4 in Lucknow.

A team of centre is expected to inspect the sanitation of the state capital for all India rankings.

“Nodal officers have been appointed to monitor the sanitation work in all zones. The reports of these nodal officers will be sent to municipal commissioner daily,” Nagar Swasthya Adhikari (NSA) Dr SK Rawat said.

LMC officials said they will also take care of sanitation workers as per norms of the government. “On the pattern of Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC), we have decided all the sanitation workers would be given new dress, gloves, mask, fluorescent jackets, helmets, shoes, raincoats as per norms set by centre. This facility would also be given to all the sanitation workers who are working for contractors and are not permanent staff of LMC,” Dr Rawat said.

“All the sanitation staff will be provided facility of health checkup every six months,” he added.

Ahead of the survey, the LMC has decided that roads would be cleaned daily during the evenings too.

“Sweeping and cleaning of roads at night will be carried out in the main markets like Hazratganj, Aminabad, Chowk, Alambagh, Charbagh, Naka Hindola, Ganeshganj, Gomti Nagar, Indira Nagar, Mahanagar,” said additional municipal commissioner Amit Kumar.

“The effort is to make Lucknow among cleanest cities of the country. All zonal officers are directed to remain in the field and inspect the sanitation work in wards,” he added.

He said LMC would penalise those throwing filth on road, burning or throwing waste in river, nullah or other water bodies. Our officials would be keeping watch round the clock,” he said.

Not only that placing building material on road will also invite heavy fines as it also disturbs sanitation level in the city, he said.
