KMC varsity to now teach European, Asian languages
LUCKNOW: A centre for modern European and Asian languages and Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyay research chair have been established at KMC Language University, which in the past, was considered by many an institution meant to promote only Urdu, Arabic and Persian languages. These will be operational in the coming academic session.
Vice-chancellor Prof VK Pathak made these announcements on Sunday during the inaugural ceremony of the university’s study centre and student facilitation centre at Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Bhasha University in the presence of deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma and governor Anandiben Patel.
Now courses in German, French, Japanese and Korean languages will be offered by the university at this centre. The university has also collaborated with the German Embassy in this context and their representative Dr Shipra also presented a letter of intent on behalf of the embassy to the university V-C VK Pathak. NCC, NSS office as well as a bank, a girl’s common room, OPD and health centre have been arranged at the student facilitation centre, which was inaugurated. The health centre also has a doctor for consultation and a nurse for OPD.
The programme started with a street play prepared by volunteers of the NSS unit in which they raised important issues like ‘say no to dowry’ and ‘foeticide’.
Governor and chancellor Anandiben Patel, while appreciating the street play, said she hoped that girl students participating in it were able to fight against these evils.
The new logo and new flag of the university were also released by the chancellor. Teachers who prepared it were honoured with a citation. The governor appreciated the use of the Sanskrit words ‘ Bhasha Vishwam Yojayati’ on the logo (meaning language that binds the entire world). She said it was necessary to empower girls to overcome malnutrition. Talking about the girl’s common room in the student facilitation centre, the governor said this room should be used to strengthen the traditional values of the country. The university had recently organised a haemoglobin screening camp, in which 40% of girl students were found to be deficient in haemoglobin. Referring to a report, the chancellor said the university should arrange counselling and health seminars for girl students. The governor said the new education policy gives an opportunity to design new curricula, according to new challenges. Deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma stressed the increasing role of teachers in e-content and online learning. He also said UP government was continuously working on teachers’ training, refresher courses and research on Ganga.
