Two BBAU students arrested for attack on woman research scholar, brother
LUCKNOW : The Lucknow police on Wednesday arrested two students of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU) here in connection with the harassment and beating up of a woman research scholar of the university inside the same institution on Tuesday, an official said. The accused had also attacked the scholar’s brother when he tried to intervene.

The two accused, along with a third student, were rusticated by the university administration on disciplinary grounds, a university spokesperson said.
Additional deputy commissioner of police SM Qasim Abidi said, “The incident took place around 11am on Tuesday when the accused passed objectionable comments on the woman, who is a junior research fellow at the university. When her brother, who was with her, tried to intervene, the accused attacked him. They also attacked and injured the woman.”
The police lodged an FIR regarding the matter on the basis of a complaint by the woman and identified two of the main accused as Rohan Sagar and Sonu. The duo are students of the Bachelor of Engineering (BE) course.
“Rohan Sagar and Sonu were arrested by our team and were sent to prison in judicial custody,” said the officer.
Rachana Gangwar, spokesperson for BBAU, said, “The university has taken very strict cognizance of the matter. We have decided to rusticate Rohan Sagar, Sonu Kumar of the engineering department along with Ashish, who is a student of a management course.”
According to people aware of the issue, Ashish is a close friend of Rohan Sagar and Sonu and he was present with them at the time of the incident. Police are also looking into his role in the incident.
Gangwar added that the university had decided to sensitise students about the issue of harassment and violence on the campus to avoid such incidents in the future. “We will also review our security arrangements to ensure the safety of our students and to prevent these kinds of incidents from recurring,” Gangwar added.
