Teachers apply tilak, offer laddoos to students on Day 1

LUCKNOW : The turnout of students in government upper primary schools remained better than the urban private schools on day one after the schools reopened for class 8 across the state on Wednesday. Nearly 43% presence was recorded in government schools on the day one as compared to 25% in private schools, said an official of the state education department.

More than 40,000 government run upper primary schools reopened on Wednesday for class 6-8 students.

The teaching of class 6 students will be held on Mondays and Thursdays, class 7 on Tuesdays and Fridays and for class 8 students on Wednesdays and Saturdays, according to an order issued by Renuka Kumar, additional chief secretary, UP basic education department.

At several schools, teachers accorded warm welcome to students by applying tilak, offering laddus and garlanding them as they entered the school premises.

At Upper Primary School, Gangpur Pukhta in Badayun, Praveen Kumar, an assistant teacher, and his colleagues made a grand arrangemen­t to welcome the students who came after 11 months as schools remained closed since March second week.

Class 8 students, Shiv Singh, Dheerendra and Rekha were surprised to see a number of teachers standing in queue to apply tilak and garland them. “I was not expecting anything like this,” said Rekha.

Out of 54 students, 27 came to school on the first day, said Kumar.

Students were sporting a big smile at Upper Primary School in Hansapur, Mall block of Lucknow, where normal work resumed with teachers taking classes.

At UPS, Ahra in Basti, school was decked up with balloons while many schools provided free masks to students.
