Shock, grief at constable’s village, father demands stern action against the guilty

AGRA: Shock and grief were palpable at constable Devendra Jasawat’s village, Nagla Bindu, under Doki police station limits in Agra district on Wednesday, a day after the policeman was killed by alleged goons of an illicit liquor kingpin in Kasganj district.

His mother, Guddi Devi, was in tears while his wife, Chanchal, was in shock and silent. The constable is also survived by two daughters, aged three years and four months, respective­ly. The father, Mahaveer Singh, a farmer, was also in tears when he reached the post-mortem house in Kasganj on Wednesday to bring the body back. “My son is a martyr and made the family proud. Strict action should be taken against those who did this wrong to us,” said Mahaveer Singh.

Police officials led by additional director general (Agra zone) Ajay Anand paid their last respects to Devendra in Kasganj. Before tragedy struck, the family had been preparing for the marriage of Devendra’s sister in May. “Devendra had recently visited the village for the engagement of his sister, who is to be married on May 2. He was a simple man and used to mix with the villagers during his visits,” a villager said.

The constable was posted at the Sidhpura police station of Kasganj district.

Devendra had left for Nagla Dhimar village in Kasganj along with sub-inspector Ashok Pal on Tuesday. Before the day ended, the shocking news of his death reached his home at Nagla

Bindu, about 25 kilometres from the Agra district headquarte­rs. Villagers began gathering at house on Tuesday. They demanded stringent action against the killers. Mahaveer Singh said Devendra joined the police force in 2015 and got married two years later.

Kasganj district magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh stated that in compliance with chief minister Yogi Adityanath’s directive, an announceme­nt had been made for financial relief of Rs 50 lakh for the family members of the constable and job to a family member.

Villagers bid tearful adieu to constable

The mortal remains of constable Devendra Jasawat were consigned to flames at his ancestral village Nagla Bindu in Agra district on Wednesday. The family members were inconsolab­le as Devendra’s body, draped in the tricolour, reached the ancestral village around 3pm on Wednesday.

Senior officials of Agra district were also present as the villagers paid a tearful tribute to the constable.

ADG, A Satish Ganesh and Agra DM Prabhu N Singh helped carry the bier before the cremation.

LUCKNOW: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday directed the state government officials to regularly monitor the availabili­ty of job avenues under ‘Mission Rozgar’.

He said list of those registered on the state’s employment portal should be reviewed and names of those who had been given a job should be removed from it.

“This would help in providing employment to a large number of youths,” said the CM while reviewing work of various department­s at a high-level meeting at Lok Bhawan here.

He said a large number of youths were being benefitted under the Mission Rozgar and it should continue.

Mission Shakti

Chief minister said the state government was running Mission Shakti campaign with an objective of ensuring security, respect and self-reliance of women. He gave directives for organising programme focusing on Mission Shakti on the occasion of women’s day on March 8.

Uttarakhan­d tragedy

Yogi said all possible help should be given to those affected by the tragedy in Uttarakhan­d. He said besides making arrangemen­ts for treatment of those injured in the incident, informatio­n should be sought about health condition of those found safe and all possible help be given to their families.

Security for Mathura Sant Samagam

He said all arrangemen­ts should be made in time for organising Sant Samagam in Mathura. He said the saints, religious gurus and devotees reaching there for the programme should not face any problem.

MAHARAJA SUHELDEV BIRTH ANNIV

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday gave directives for organise various programmes on the occasion of the birth anniversar­y of Maharaja Suheldev on February 16.

He said that on the birth anniversar­y of Maharaja Suheldev, programmes should be organized in all the districts at sites and monuments of martyrs.
