Men outnumber women in taking the jabs
Elderly queue up at centres in Lko; 12,773 take vaccine shots, including 7,679 men and 5,094 women
LUCKNOW : Men showed more enthusiasm than women on Thursday as citizens above 60 years of age and those between 45 and 60 years with co-morbidities turned up in large numbers for Covid vaccination in Lucknow. A total of 12,773 took the jabs, of which 7,679 (60.11%) were men and 5,094 (39.88%) were women.
“The response towards the vaccination drive among the elderly was good since morning at all the vaccination centres. At some of the booths, queues were managed well by the staff. We hope this will continue in the vaccination days to come,” said Dr MK Singh, in-charge of vaccination in Lucknow.
Many senior citizens, who had been given time slots for the latter part of the day, also turned up in the morning while several who wanted to avail ‘walk in’ vaccination facility (without prior registration) also came in the morning hours. “No adverse reaction was reported after vaccination in the city,” said Singh.
Many elderly, who reached in groups for vaccination, took moments to enjoy during the post-vaccination observation period.
At Era Medical college, where 641 beneficiaries were inoculated, a group of seniors took selfies and spent time chatting with each other.
Arrangements for vaccination had been made in such a manner that 60% of the Covid vaccination at the centres set up in urban areas will be done via self-registration and the remaining 40% at each booth will be done via walk-in registration.
For availing walk-in facility, a beneficiary will reach with related documents of age, identity proof and get the vaccine jab. The ratio will be 50-50 in vaccination centres in rural areas, said Amit Mohan Prasad, ACS, medical health.
1,18,567 beneficiaries inoculated in UP
Across Uttar Pradesh, 1,18,567 beneficiaries were vaccinated during the day and all of them were healthy and safe, said a press statement from the state government. Among those inoculated were health workers who had their second dose and elderly above 60 years along with 45-plus people with co-morbidities.
Those vaccinated spent 30 minutes in the observation area. A link to download their vaccination certificate was sent to them via SMS. People who got their first dose on Thursday will get the second one on April 1.
On Friday, vaccination sessions will be organised for the elderly and for health/frontline workers who have their second dose due, said the statement.
KGMU staff on Covid duty get footwear as gift
LUCKNOW: Showing gratitude towards staff who performed well in their Covid duty, including cleaning staff, ward boys, ward maids, senior officials of the King George’s Medical University gifted them with footwear.
Prof SN Sankhwar, chief medical superintendent of KGMU, Dr D Himanshu, medical superintendent, Pradip Gangwar, president of the KGMU employees association gave away the footwear to the staff.
“In all 500 pair of footwear were distributed. We had got 1600 pairs hence the remaining will be distributed in next two days,” said Gangwar. The gift item was presented to the medical university by a footwear company.
