BBAU helping students become job givers not seekers, says VC
UNIVERSITY HAD ALREADY FORMED COMMITTEES FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF NEP
LUCKNOW: Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU), Lucknow, has established vocational and skill education department to help students become job givers instead of job seekers.
Giving this information in an informal chat with the media, BBAU vice chancellor, Sanjay Singh, who completed two years in office on February 24, said, “We want our students to become entrepreneurs so that they may create jobs for others. This is being done for implementing the national education policy (NEP)-2020. It is our responsibility to help students create jobs and not always run for jobs instead.”
He said the university had already formed several committees for smooth implementation of NEP. “The committee is expected to prepare a roadmap as to how it can be implemented in the university,” Singh added.
“Village adoption and training programmes for farmers to make them skilful in advanced technologies is another area on which the university is focusing. If we are able to convince farmers to integrate technology in farming, it will enhance productivity and simultaneously increase their income,” he said.
The vice chancellor said efforts were also on to improve placement cell of the university. “Companies have started offering jobs after yearlong pandemic situation that has eased a little. The placement cell will be strengthened to attract more companies so that our students are better placed,” he said.
Singh said the university was continuously working to strengthen the infrastructure. “We are trying to set up a separate block in which all science departments will come under one roof. This will help in carrying out integrated research work as all the labs will be in one area. The research done in university’s laboratories will benefit the common man and thus enable the university to play its role in social development and upliftment,” he said.
“The university will establish a patent cell on the campus so that innovation being done by teachers and students can be patented. We are nurturing raw talent,” the VC said. Singh further said in the last two years, the university has signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with many renowned institutions like CDRI, NIPER, Rae Bareli, IIT BHU, S Vyasa and DICCI.
“Today the university is in the list of top 10 central universities of the country,” he claimed. “The university has also made every effort to convert the challenges faced during Covid-19 into opportunities. Along with continuing the online classes, more and more facilities were made available to the students by conducting online examinations during the corona period,” he said.
“The university has done many works related to water harvesting, plantation and cleanliness. As a result, the university is compliant with the International Green Building Standards 14001 and has the distinction of being a certified campus,” Singh said.
