KANPUR: District magistrate Alok Tiwari has directed lodging of FIRs against the managers of Central Bank branches at Arya Nagar, Govind Nagar, Hanspuram Naubasta, Naughara and Rooma for allegedly not providing loans to street vendors despite their requests and instructions from authorities.

The loans were to be given under the Prime Minister’s Swanidhi Scheme, Tiwari said.

Also, during inspection it was found five other bank branches were found closed and action will be taken against them, he said.

The district magistrate further said that so far only 15,000 applicants out of 63,000 had been given loans under the scheme in the past two weeks. It was the lowest in the entire division, which has six districts.

Tiwari said the administration would act tough against bank managers who were found lax while handling government schemes. All should work to make this scheme successful, he said. Meanwhile, divisional commissioner Raj Shekhar has fixed a target of 2,500 loan disbursals per day and put the responsibility on Kanpur Municipal Corporation (KMC) to oversee the disbursals. In order to meet the target, KMC should ensure that 2500 applicants get the benefit of scheme every day, said a press release from the information department. The district magistrate and municipal commissioner would monitor the loan disbursals and update the commissioner on a daily basis, the release said.
