Union fertilisers and chemicals minister DV Sadananda Gowda on Thursday announced that the fertiliser factory in Gorakhpur would become operational from June 30 instead of the targeted July-end start. He credited the Yogi Adityanath government for taking interest in the timely completion of the factory, despite the effect of the global coronavirus pandemic for a year.

Gowda inspected the Hindustan Fertiliser and Chemicals Limited (HURL) factory along with the chief minister in Gorakhpur.

He said 98% work on this fertiliser factory had already been completed. The factory was the dream of Yogi Adityanath and it would be realised soon, the Union minister added. He appreciated the chief minister for taking the initiative for the revival of the factory from the day he took reins of the state in his hands. It resulted in the completion of the factory ahead of schedule, he said.

The Union minister said earlier the country had to import 80 to 90 lakh metric tonnes of fertilisers. With Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of selfreliance, new plants were being set up at five places, including Gorakhpur, to end the dependence on imports, he added. These plants will ensure the production of 62 lakh metric tonnes of fertilisers, he said.

Once the fertiliser factory in Gorakhpur becomes functional, the farmers of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar will get urea fertiliser on time at a reasonable price, Gowda said.

The prime minister’s foresight saw a 60% increase in the sale of fertilisers despite the Covid period, he added.

“The interest of the farmers is the top priority of the government. A system is being developed to ensure that 100% of the fertiliser subsidy reaches the farmers’ accounts directly,” he said.

Gowda said a plastic park will be set up in Gorakhpur soon on the initiative of chief minister Yogi Adityanath. This venture will create a large number of jobs. The state government has made arrangements for 52 acres of land for the plastic park and the detailed project report (DPR) will be ready by April-end. Apart from this, two CIPET (Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering) centres in Ayodhya and Varanasi in UP will be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi within a month, he said.
