OPPOSITION PROTESTS ‘LAST MINUTE’ TABLING OF BILL IN ASSEMBLY

-

: Opposition members on Thursday lodged a strong protest in the assembly when the government tabled the Uttar Pradesh Repealing Bill-2021 to repeal 61 enactments that have become redundant over the years.

The agitated opposition members demanded that the state government take action against those responsible for tabling the bill in the house at the last minute (just before the budget session ended)

Leader of opposition Ram Govind Chaudhary, BSP leader Lalji Verma and Congress legislature party leader Aradhana Mishra rose from their seats to protest against the bill and staged a walk out soon after minister for parliamentary affairs Suresh Khanna tabled the bill.

The bill, which was later passed, provides for repealing of the United Provinces Cotton Pest Control Act, 1936 (Uttar Pradesh Act, 1936) enacted as act number 11 in 1936. It also provides for repealing The United Provinces First Offenders Probation Act 1938 enacted as act number 6 in 1938, among others.
