UP logs highest one-day spike of 30,596 cases

With 129 more fatalities, death toll reaches 9,830 in Uttar Pradesh

LUCKNOW : With 30,596 fresh cases, highest in a day ever since the pandemic broke out in March last year, the tally of total Covid patients in Uttar Pradesh rose to 8,51,620 on Sunday whereas 129 more fatalities during the day took the death toll in the state to 9,830, said the state health department

The state has tested 3,82,66,474 Covid samples till now, including 2,36,492 in the past 24 hours that had 93,947 samples tested through RT-PCR (reverse transcript­ion polymerase chain reaction) method.

“Covid beds are being increased with oxygen support and each district has been asked to add 200 such beds for Covid patients,” said Amit Mohan Prasad, additional chief secretary, medical health, UP, in a press conference on Sunday.

Navneet Sehgal, additional chief secretary, informatio­n, in the press conference said taking note of the fire incident in a hospital in Raipur, Chhattisga­rh, UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath had directed the home and the fire service department­s to take stock of the arrangemen­ts at both government and private hospitals in the state.

The state has 1,91,457 active Covid patients of which 97,558 are in home isolation and 3,520 in private hospitals. Till now, 8,51,620 patients have been discharged after recovery.

ACS urged to help Covid +ve lab technician

Yogesh Upadhaya, the general secretary of the Joint NHM Employees’ Union, UP, has written a letter to the additional chief secretary (ACS), medical health and family welfare, for shifting a lab technician to a L-3 hospital from Lok Bandhu hospital. “Ritesh Raj Mishra has been awarded for his dedication to Covid duty by many organisati­ons and even the state government. He tested positive on April 10 and had to be shifted to hospital on April 16. Now he needs ventilator support but it is difficult to find one for such a dedicated staff,” said Upadhaya in the letter.
