TAKE STEPS TO PREVENT HUNGER: EXPERT

-

LUCKNOW: Prof Yashveer Tyagi, an economist, said that the government must introduce

measures to prevent hunger and any livelihood crisis that the migrants may face. “The first step is to register them. This is necessary to track them and make them beneficiaries of schemes. Then, try to employ them in MGNREGS (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme). Now, that harvesting season is on, they could be employed in harvesting work as well. Then, as a more organised step, the government could do skill mapping and employ them in MSME and large industries. The government can, as it did the last time, give them Rs 1,000 relief and dry ration kits.”

As a long-term measure to reduce migration, the government should promote non-agriculture works in villages, added Tyagi.
