Cop fires at wife after argument, arrested

LUCKNOW: A police inspector on Monday was arrested for allegedly opening fire with his service pistol at his wife following an argument with her, said a senior police official.

Another woman, who was standing nearby, narrowly escaped the bullet as it grazed her shoulder. The accused inspector was reportedly posted in duty of a VIP, he said.

Confirming the incident, assistant commission­er of police Shweta Srivastava said, “The incident took place at around 6 pm in Khargapur area of Gomti Nagar Vistar. One Dharmendra Kumar Yadav, who is an inspector, opened fire with his service weapon at his wife following an argument with her over a dispute. The bullet grazed past another woman present there. The inspector has been arrested and his service weapon seized.”

According to police sources, the inspector, a resident of Jaunpur district, was living in a rented place in Gomti Nagar Vistar. He had a dispute with his wife and the couple often used to indulge in arguments.

On Monday evening, the couple was also having an argument over some issue when Dharmendra took out his service weapon in a fit of rage and opened fire at her.

A police team was rushed to the spot after the incident and arrested the accused. A case has been lodged in this connection at Gomti Nagar Vistar police station, police said.
