The Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) has cancelled the ICSE (class 10) exams in view of the “worsening” situation of Covid-19 pandemic across the country. The ISC schools have been asked to start admissions to class 11 and resume teaching.

“Given the present worsening situation of the Covid- 19 pandemic in the country, the CISCE has decided to cancel the ICSE (Class 10) 2021 examination. The options given earlier (on April 16) to ICSE students who wish to appear in class 10 board exam with ISC students now stands withdrawn. The safety and wellbeing of students and teaching faculty is topmost priority and of paramount interest,” said CISCE chief executive and secretary Gerry Arathoon on Tuesday.

Arathoon said that the board will now come up with “fair and unbiased” criteria to evaluate ICSE students. “The criteria on which basis the results will be declared for the ICSE (class 10) students, and the date of result declaration will be announced by CICSE later,” he said in the statement.

The CISCE affiliated schools were advised to start Class 11 admissions and begin classes for these students: All CISCE affiliated schools (having the ISC section) are advised to begin the admission process for Class Xl, if not already done, Arathoon said.

In addition, schools should prepare a schedule to begin online classes for the Class 11 students at the earliest.

The examination of the ISC (Class Xll) 2021 has been postponed and will be held at later stage which will be made public in advance.

The board maintained that class 12 or ISC exams are still considered as postponed.

Meanwhile, it has asked all its affiliated schools to start admissions and online classes for grade 11 as soon as possible.

Last week, the CBSE had also cancelled its class 10 exams and postponed class 12 exams in view of the pandemic situation in the country.

The UP board has also deferred high school and intermediate examinations.
