Over 70K candidates of third phase elected unopposed

: The state election commission (SEC) on Tuesday ordered repolling in 34 booths in seven districts of the 20 districts where the second phase of panchayat elections was held on Monday

“Repolling will be held at a booth each in Chitrakoot and Sultanpur; two booths each in Amroha, Etah and Lakhimpur Kheri; 21 booths in Pratapgarh and five booths in Azamgarh. “The date for repolling will be announced soon,” said an SEC officer.

The repolling has been ordered either due to incidents of violence or malpractic­es alleged at these booths. Pratapgarh that reported several incidents of violence will have repolling on 21 booths—highest so far in both first and second phases for any district.

Meanwhile, the SEC also declared a total of 70,860 candidates

of various posts elected unopposed in 19 districts where polling will be held in third phase on April 26.

The state election commission declared a total of six zila panchayat member candidates, 371 kshetra panchayat member candidates, 55 gram panchayat pradhan candidates, and 70,428 gram panchayat member candidates elected unopposed in the third phase

districts where polling will be held on April 26.

Voting for the first phase of panchayat polls in 18 districts held on April 15 saw 71% turnout while the second phase on Monday had 73% turnout of voters.

The polling for the third and fourth (the last phase) will be held on April 26 and 29. Counting of votes is scheduled to start on May 2.
