MEERUT: Twelve critically ill Covid-19 patients undergoing treatment in a private hospital had to be shifted around midnight to other hospitals, due to a shortage of oxygen in the hospital.

District magistrate K Balaji supervised the shifting of the critically ill 12 patients to other hospitals so that they could continue getting oxygen. “We shifted those patients to LLRM Medical College and NCR Medical College and supply of oxygen was ensured during their treatment,” said the DM.

Santosh Hospital is situated on Hapur Road where 61 Covid-19 patients were being treated and were on oxygen. Twelve of these were in a critical condition.

District surveillance officer Ashok Taliyan said that the hospital didn’t brief them about the shortage of oxygen during the day as their management was sure of receiving oxygen from the supplier. Taliyan said that the hospital reported the emergency of oxygen after the supplier refused to provide them with oxygen. The matter was brought to the notice of the district magistrate and other officials who rushed to the hospital almost at midnight and shifted these 12 critically sick patients in LLRM and NCR Medical College.

The district magistrate said that LLRM, NCR and Subharti Medical College have oxygen storage tanks while supply of oxygen in private hospitals is directly from oxygen suppliers. He said, “We were focusing on availability of oxygen on a priority basis.”
