‘UP PURCHASED 4.92 LAKH MT WHEAT AT MSP’

The Uttar Pradesh (UP) government has purchased around 4.92 lakh metric tonnes wheat so far since the beginning of this month at the minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 1,975 benefittin­g 94,590 farmers till now, the government said in a statement.

“Amid the rising coronaviru­s cases, the farmers are made to follow the Covid protocol while the procuremen­t process is on,” said the government statement.

“In the Rabi marketing year 2021-22, the procuremen­t of wheat directly from farmers under the minimum support price (MSP) scheme commenced on April 1. The government has increased the MSP of wheat from Rs 1,925 in 2020-21 to Rs 1,975 in 2021-22. The wheat procuremen­t centres have been increased from 5,000 last year to 6,000 this time. “About 4.92 lakh metric tonnes of wheat has been procured till April 21 as against 53,679 .17 MT in the previous year . Until now,94590 farmers from various districts have benefitted as compared to last year where only 39000 farmers had benefitted (in same period),” said Manish Chauhan, commission­er, Food and Civil Supplies, in the statement.
