LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav said here on Wednesday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government had sinned by lying to people, stood exposed and now the people were waiting to punish it.

Akhilesh Yadav said in a statement that while on the one hand, the Covid pandemic had unleashed disaster, on the other, migrants’ mass return had become a challenge. “Last year the BJP had done a lot of drum beating that all the migrants who would return to UP would get a job and had even claimed credit for 1.5 crore jobs, but now all the lies are exposed. The BJP did a great sin (mahapaap) by lying and deceiving people”, he said.

He said that migrant labourers were returning in large numbers. They had against lost jobs, exhausted money and were now distressed about returning toa their villages. “Unlike last year, this year voluntary organisations have not come forward to give them food and water on the way, while the government chose to look the other way. Because of the misplaced policy and intention towards migrant labourers, the condition is worsening ,” Akhilesh said and added: “The truth is, even in times like these, all that the BJP is bothered about is elections. Scores of people are dying daily, there is no treatment facilities in hospitals”. He said that the people were watching and would punish the BJP.
