UP sees another big spike: 195 deaths, 34,379 new cases

LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh on Thursday recorded 34,379 fresh Covid-19 infection cases and 195 more deaths, an alltime single-day high on both counts in the state since the pandemic began, according to official data.

The total caseload in Uttar Pradesh now stands at 9,76,765 while the death toll has gone up to 10,541.

Among the fresh cases, Lucknow reported the maximum 5,239 cases followed by Prayagraj 2,013, Varanasi 1,813, Meerut 1,684, Kanpur 1,516, Ghaziabad 1,023, Gorakhpur 1,136, Jhansi 823, Gautam Buddha Nagar 530 and Agra 382. Lucknow also reported the most deaths at 19. Kanpur and Prayagraj logged 18 fatalities each, Gautam Buddha Nagar 11, Varanasi 10, Ghaziabad eight and Gorakhpur two, according to the state health department data.

Till now, 3,90,89,449 Covid-19 samples have been tested in Uttar Pradesh, including 1,96,889 in the last 24 hours. The number of recovered cases in Uttar Pradesh reached 7,06,414 as 16,514 patients regained health during the past 24 hours.

“Lucknow has till now reported 1,67,477 cases of which 1,10,926 have recovered and the recovery rate is 66.23%,” said Dr Abhishek Shukla, secretary general, Associatio­n of Internatio­nal Doctors.

Additional chief secretary (medical health and family welfare) Amit Mohan Prasad said people should get vaccinated as their turn comes.

“Till now, 1,12,85,169 doses of the vaccine have been administer­ed (in UP), including 94,70,345 first doses,” he said. Currently, vaccinatio­n is going on for all above 45 years of age.
